In Saskatchewan when spring comes and the grass starts to peak through the snow everyone is excited for it! Although the nice weather is here, so is the spring cleaning, outside and in. That is where we come in, with an itemized cleaning checklist to help tackle all areas of the home, including those areas of the home you might forget!

Kitchen

Oven: A combination of dish soap, baking soda, vinegar, and water is all you need to make the baked on stains wipe off with ease.   Combining equal parts dish soap, water, and vinegar in a spray bottle and thoroughly spray the mixture all over the oven. Once the oven is coated with the mixture, sprinkle on baking soda over top of the spray mixture and leave it to do its magic for at least an hour.

Coffee Maker: Run a cycle of 50% water and 50% white vinegar. Once that is finished, run a cycle of just water through to get rid of that vinegar taste and smell.

Removing Cutting Board Stains: Slice a lemon in half, rub the cut side of the lemon on the cutting board to remove stains.

Freshen Your Fridge: Clear out everything from your fridge and dispose of any expired items, use soap and water and wipe down the interior of your fridge and put back the fridge’s contents.

Bathroom

Shower Head: Soak your shower head in vinegar and a sprinkle of baking soda. Allow the mixture to soak for a couple of hours, rinse off with water.

Shower Curtains: Wash your shower curtains, plastic or fabric, with your load of towels.

Cosmetics: Thoroughly go through all cosmetics and check for expiration dates, toss any that have expired or that you haven’t used for 3 months.

Shower & Sink Drains: Pour down ½ cup of baking soda and 1 cup of course salt. Follow that by 1 cup of heated vinegar.

Living Room

Lamp Shades: Use a lint roller to remove all the stuck on dust.

Decorative Pillows: Always make sure you read the labels and ascertain the type of fabric that is used in the pillow. Most can be thrown in the washing machine but some do just fine with a sponge washing. Find yourself a good quality upholstery shampoo and sponge and begin by working the cleaner into the pillows to remove stains. Don’t forget the trim, decorations, and any other accents.

Blinds & Curtains: Take down your blinds and curtains and wash them according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Floors & Baseboards: Use warm, soapy water and a magic eraser to wipe down baseboards and then mop floors as usual.

Odds & Ends

Indoor & Outdoor Floor Mats: Outdoor Mats – Hose off mats outside and then let air dry in the sun. Indoor Mats – If the washing directions permit, put your mat in the washing machine. If not, stick to just vacuuming. Although, if there is a smell, a sprinkle of baking soda and then vacuuming up after should do the trick.

Walls: Using a damp microfiber cloth, wipe down walls to remove dust.

Reusable Bags: Wash your reusable bags! Most bags are machine washable, and bags with thermal lining can be washed by hand with soap and water or a disinfecting wipe.

Brooms & Trash Cans: If the weather permits, hose down your trash cans as well as your broom and dust pan. Scrub both with a sponge and soap and water, then rinse.
